Solution

                                           9/11 Attacks

The 9/11 attacks were undoubtedly the most shocking terrorist attacks in the history of the US. Although 9/11 was a shock, I believe it should not have come as a surprise because the Islamist terrorists had already given many warnings about their intentions to kill indiscriminately American citizens, especially in large numbers.  Even before Osama Bin Laden was viewed as a terrorist leader and a signal threat, there were several assaults, such as Ramzi Yousef uncovered plan of blowing several US airliners as they passed the Pacific in 1955 (Enders & Sandler, 2005). Furthermore, the Islamist terrorism threat grew in the 1990s especially late in the decade when Osam Bin Laden publically declared that every Muslim should try and kill Americans because of the US occupation of Islamic holy places and its aggression towards the Muslims.
