Solution

                                     Equivalency Theory

There has been a massive evolution of technology over the past century causing a dramatic change in distance education which according to Dr. Michael Simonson established the need for more theories to guide the distance education practice (Simonson, 1999). According to Simonson’s  (1999) initial view of distance learning was using a video tape to make a CD and use that video. As a result, the students who would us that video would have an identical experience but it would be impossible to have an identical learning. This view became the equivalency theory because a theory is seen as systematic and coherent ordering of concepts, ideas and models aiming to construct meaning, interpret, explain or shape practice (Garratt-Reed et al., 2016).

According to the equivalency theory, distance education is not identical conventional education but it is equivalent. This theory argues that the idea of equivalency is the basis of successful distance education. The idea of equivalency is based on the view that the more distance and local students have equivalent learning experiences, the more equivalent their learning activities’ outcomes will be. As Simonson (1999) states, while equivalency do not mean equal it is used to explain various learning experiences that lead to equivalent learning even though they cannot be identical……………for help with this assignment contact us via email Address: consulttutor10@gmail.com
