In Savage Inequalities, Kozol provides an extremely thorough examination of poverty and wealth extremes and brings attention to the reality of equal treatment and opportunity in American schools. I find his examination credible because starting from 1988, he visited schools across the US from San Antonio to New York and Washington, D.C to Illinois for two years. Alongside the most important side of the topic, the children, Kozol also talked with principals, teachers and superintendents. I find what Kozol observed as devastating because he found that besides the gap between the rich and poor being wide and the two sides extremely unequal, this gap was seen to be widening and it has widened since.
