Solution
The Cold War
Containment was the main Cold War policy of the US and its allies in mitigating the spread of communism across the world. It was used to prevent the Soviet efforts to enlarge communism into Africa, Vietnam, Korea, Eastern Europe, and China (Duiker, 2015). Through this policy, the US tried to respond to the Soviet moves in Korea by occupying the southern part of the area, which became South Korea. The remaining Northern part of Korea became North Korea which was in control of the communists. This led to the Korean War, primarily caused by border tensions between the US and the Soviet Union.
