Solution

                                   Psychosocial Care of the Elderly

The population aged 65 and above has been gradually increasing in the US and the whole world. A significant portion of this population suffers from acute and chronic health conditions making them regular consumers of health care services. Besides physical health needs, the elderly population has various special needs including behavioral and mental health needs. According to Geriatric Nursing (2020), depression and anxiety are examples of mental health conditions that the elderly population is facing which affects their ability to conduct various tasks in their lives and run their daily routine effectively. Additionally, after reviewing the source I encountered some surprising facts about the psychological care of the aging.

Age-related changes have a relationship to metabolic, neurotically and digestive functions thus One surprising fact is that most aging patients experience cognitive functioning challenges and have speech difficulties as they grow older. The aging process information at a slower rate compared to young adults (Geriatric Nursing, 2020). It is also surprising the aging patients have limited social interactions and activities thus it is challenging for them to adjust to old age especially for those who live on their own or get minimal attention from their families.

Another surprising fact is that self-perception and self-concept change as these aging patients grow older. Since older people face problems with self-perception and self-concept depression is common among this population (Geriatric Nursing, 2020). Studies have clearly shown that self-perception and self-concept are related to loneliness and other health issues. Thus aging patients should be engaged in social activities and interactions consistently because when they become active in their lives they are able to view their worth again and regain the hope that they may have lost. Thus it is important to integrate the aging in the society through and also allow them to take part in rigid social interactions and activities that are planned by the support groups dealing with elderly patients …………for help with this assignment contact us via Email Address: consulttutor10@gmail.com
