Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, shows how Stravinsky turned the musical hierarchy on its head. Interestingly, the performance has complicated, intensive rhythms, melodic fragments collated randomly, strange tonality, and unexpected dissonant chords emerging out of the blue.
