The ambiguous meaning of progressiveness and the great diversity of progressive reformers have invited questions about the movement’s political and intellectual course. For instance, in the presidential campaign of 1912, the progressives’ had President Roosevelt as their standard-bearer, but there were divisions on whether they should fight against the Southern racial segregation. Eventually, the reform movement did not and rather accept the right of localities and states to address matters concerning race. During the Spanish-American War, the US captured some territories such as the Philippines and Puerto Rico, but it invited different responses toward its occupation. Most progressive reformers, including President Roosevelt, believed there was no conflict between the reform at home and imperialism. The 19th Amendment allowing women the right to vote was the end result of Woman Suffrage.  However, the most surprising thing in the Women Suffrage is how the two formed key organizations became the bastions of the movement and concentrated on the same end goal.
