Sustainability Final Review

Question

Sustainability Final Review

Through this assignment, you will identify sustainable topics we have discussed through the last seven units. The goal of this assignment is to help you better understand how all of the topics discussed in your textbook intertwine and are directly linked to meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Through this unit’s assignment, you will identify and describe how global climate change (Unit III), renewable energy (Unit IV), population growth (Unit V), genetically modified organism (GMO) crops (Unit VI), and synthetic biology (Unit VII) relate to sustaining our environmental resources (Unit I).

Reviewing the assignments from Units I, III, IV, V, VI, and VII, you will create a project that shows how each topic relates to our environmental resources and how they relate to sustainability. Write a report that includes the following requirements:

  • Identify and describe how global climate change, renewable energy, population growth, GMO crops, and synthetic biology relate to sustaining our environmental resources.
  • Explain two strategies that could be used to address these sustainability issues listed above. Each strategy must be supported by an academic source for a total of at least four to five supporting sources. You can use previous sources that were used in each unit assignment.
  • Discuss how these issues affect government regulations and your local community and the challenges of implementing these solutions on a federal, state, and local level.

Your project must be a minimum of three pages and include a title page and reference page (title and reference pages do not count toward the minimum page requirement). You must include an introduction and create a heading for each unit topic discussed. Ensure that you include the required sources mentioned above to support your project. You are to use APA format (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, and 1 inch margins).

Solution

                                             Sustainability

Today’s activity should satisfy human needs and at the same time, protect the natural resources for future generation’s needs.  However, human needs are becoming too dependent on natural resources; thus, the consumption rate is higher than the rate of replenishment. This paper discusses how sustainability issues such as global climate change, renewable energy, population growth, genetically modified organism (GMO) crops and synthetic biology relate to sustaining environmental resources. Also, alongside analyzing strategies in approaching these sustainability issues, this paper will discuss their effects and challenges facing their implementation.

                                                    Unit III

The rise in temperatures is directly associated with global warming, which results from the greenhouse effect.  Some of the gases that accumulate to cause the greenhouse effects are emitted from our daily activities. They include methane, nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide and are known as greenhouse gases (GHGs). Moreover, most GHGs emissions result from the use of fossil fuels.  Therefore, people should decide between benefits for the future generation or valuing the present benefits such as cheap and convenient energy sources (Easton, 2018). In order to avoid more serious greenhouse issues on our planet, there must be strategies and actions to mitigate GHGs emissions.
