Fracking
In fracking, the process involves drilling down into the earth and directing a high-pressure water mixture at the rocks to retrieve the gas inside (Cho 185). Despite the many benefits associated to fracking such as lower costs of energy, the process requires lots of water and chemicals, but many companies are unwilling to disclose the type of chemicals they use and how they dispose them (Merrill 971). As a result, due to the use of potentially carcinogenic chemicals and the release of gases while cultivation oil and gas the process largely affects the environment negatively thus fracking should be stopped until the process is made environmentally friendly.
At first, according to Mazur, fracking involves drilling holes inside the earth’s surface until the remains of oil and gas are not found (210).
