Solution
Adolescence and Emerging Adulthood
Early adolescence (10-14 years) is a period where boys and girls are highly expected to adhere to the socially constructed and sometimes stereotypical norms and beliefs that may promote or destroy gender inequalities. However, there is little attention in young adolescents and the factors that impact their gender, beliefs, development, and attitudes. This paper will discuss early adolescence through aspects of the young adolescent’s life.
At first, regarding adolescence around the world, Cherewick et al. (2021) state that adolescents are 16% of the total global population, and because among them are at early adolescence, young adolescents are 8% of the global population. In the modern world, young adolescents have unprecedented freedom to make their own choices with regard to different possible identities and life courses in work and love. Such occupational and educational choices were barely dreamed of by the previous generations of young adolescents especially girls. However, not only in the West but globally, young adolescents continue to face a wide range of problems where Cherewick et al. (2021) show that globally, girls continue to often face discrimination that is an obstacle to their voice, opportunities, choices, and agency. For instance, restrictive gender beliefs and norms are significant in shaping young adolescents’ developmental outcomes and trajectories.
Additionally, according to Cherewick et al. (2021) young adolescence is a stage of life at the few years of adolescence where boys and girls experience puberty marked by rapid growth, reproductive maturation, adaptation, and cognitive processes. Thus this stage is not only characterized by rapid changes in their bodies but also as they develop more adult-like physical features and sexual maturity, they develop new feelings about their relationships, sexuality, gender, and bodies. …………for help with this assignment contact us via email Address: consulttutor10@gmail.com
