Puhl, R. M., Neumark-Sztainer, D., Bryn Austin, S., Suh, Y., & Wakefield, D. B. (2016). Policy actions to address weight-based bullying and eating disorders in schools: Views of teachers and school administrators. Journal of School Health, 86(7), 507-515.

Based on the findings of the reading, and your own experiences in education, is weight-based victimization a problem in schools?

Additionally, which of the polices discussed on weight-based victimization in the article do you think should be implemented in schools, and why?

Solution

Weight-based Victimization in Schools

Reflecting on the reading and my educational experiences, I view weight-based victimization as a problem in schools. At first, according to Puhl et al. (2016), being overweight is the leading cause of bullying in schools compared to other aspects such as sexual orientation, physical ability, family income, academic ability, race or ethnicity. Also, 41% of the total educators’ sample thought that bullying as a severe problem in schools. Moreover, 48% of the participants in the study by Puhl et al. (2016) have observed bullying based on weight in schools. This is similar to my own experiences in education because in the school I attended in my childhood, being made fun of or being called names such as fat or pig was a common thing for overweight students. Therefore, I believe weight-based victimization is a problem in school because most of the kids that were bullied did not like school, and they often had lower school performance which attracted further bullying…………for help with this assignment contact us via email Address: consulttutor10@gmail.com
