Question-Personal Integrity and Ethical Foundations
Personal Integrity and Ethical Foundations
We each have an idea of what integrity means in our head, but actually defining this concept is rather difficult. What does integrity mean to you?
Write a multi-paragraph response in which you articulate your definition of integrity. Include specific details and examples from what you have read, heard, and experienced in your interpretation.
Develop a response that includes examples and evidence to support your ideas, and which clearly communicates the required message to your audience. Organize your response in a clear and logical manner as appropriate for the genre of writing. Use well-structured sentences, audience-appropriate language, and correct conventions of standard American English.
Integrity can be defined as a set of qualities and values that an individual possesses. These values are grounded on strong moral and ethical principles. Among these qualities are: being respectful, honest, gracious, trustworthy, hardworking, responsible, patient and helpful. A person is able to show their integrity by choosing to do the right thing, no matter the circumstance, specially when no one is watching and it is just you with your conscience.
An individual is respectful when it shows respect to others and also respect at the work-place. When this person is doing its best to meet deadlines, to follow protocols and act as team player, integrity is displayed. This trait can also be exemplified by being punctual, show empathy (keep other’s feeling in mind) and always consider other people’s ideas. Respect is one of the most valuables traits in the workplace because is the start point for creating a positive work culture.
A second fundamental component of integrity, is honesty. An honest person is one that is reliable, accountable and transparent. This individual remains honest with others, avoid gossiping, follow through their promises and admit when they are wrong. When someone is considered as being honest, this creates and atmosphere of trust in the group or workplace in question.
A third but not least quality of integrity is hardworking. Those with integrity strive to produce high-quality-work, no matter the task. This individual is aware that every decision made, every task performed, would have a consequence and an impact in the organization, their colleagues and ultimately, business outcomes.
In conclusion we can say that integrity is crucial, not only at the individual level, but also at the social and labor level. Specially for those in leadership positions, where the leader has the opportunity to set examples for others, being a person with integrity is very critical. If all of us put our efforts and energy into incorporating strong values to our behavior, we can encourage others to do the same and help to built a world with greater integrity.
This is the evaluation I got from an IntelliMetric system. I got 67 points. (Personal Integrity and Ethical Foundations Rubric)

Writing Performance: | Score Point 1 |
Writing Trait: | Commentary: |
Focus & Meaning | The writer demonstrates little or no understanding of the prompt by minimally focusing on the prompt task. The response fails to establish a controlling idea or bottom line. Additionally, the writer provides no adaptation to the intended audience. The response does not state the central/controlling idea or bottom line. The writer loses focus with the discussion of white lies. The one short paragraph starts to address the prompt task and then loses focus. (“Everyone has a different deffition of what integrity means in their head. Integrity is difined by adherence to moral and thical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty. Some people think that telling white lies to keep from hurting people is still being honest while on the other hand other people can not even tell a white lie because they want to be honest and show integrity.”) |
Content & Development | There is inadequate or no content or development of ideas in the response. The writer fails to develop ideas, using no business concepts or terms. Specific information about integrity is inadequate. There is no evidence that explains or supports the overall message. The essay contains too few details for readers to understand the writer’s definition of integrity.
Organization | The writer provides inadequate or no organization of ideas. The writer demonstrates no evidence of structure. Additionally, there is no evidence of paragraphing or grouping of information, logical connections and transitional devices. The one paragraph response demonstrates no evidence of a good introduction or conclusion.

The writer demonstrates impersonal or unclear and incoherent language and word choice, no awareness of audience, and major errors in sentence structure and usage. There are run-on portions in the response. (“Everyone has a different deffition of what integrity means in their head. Integrity is difined by adherence to moral and thical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty. Some people think that telling white lies to keep from hurting people is still being honest while on the other hand other people can not even tell a white lie because they want to be honest and show integrity.”) The definition of integrity included in the essay seems to have been copied directly from an outside source (“adherence to moral and thical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty”). |
Mechanics & Conventions | The writer’s control of mechanics and conventions is inadequate in the response. Errors are so severe in punctuation, spelling and usage, grammar, and sentence structure that they significantly interfere with the communication of the message and undermine the authority of the writer. To make the essay more effective, the writer should ensure that sentences have a subject and a verb, begin with capital letters, and end with appropriate punctuation marks. A line break should be used to separate and distinguish between the paragraphs. The writer needs to correct significantly distracting errors in spelling and grammar.
