Solution
Ethical Studies
The federal government has established ethical guidelines to protect research participants. These regulations include a requirement that any institution receiving funding for research establishes an institutional review board. To safeguard participants’ safety, the IRB manages and evaluates conducted studies. Belmont Report is another ethical guideline that contains three principles, specifically justice, beneficence, and respect for persons developed to ensure the well-being of human subjects (Myers & Hansen, 2012). Harmful research negatively affects the subjects as well as the researcher. Before any research can be done, the subjects must be fully informed and sign a written consent form. A code of conduct’s primary goal is to protect the study’s participants, but ethical guidelines also aim to protect researchers as well. Unfortunately, some previous studies, such as the psychological research by l Campbell, Sanderson, and Laverty and the Stanford Prison Experiment, have failed to demonstrate and uphold these ethical guidelines.
Campbell, Sanderson, and Laverty
Campbell, Sanderson, and Laverty carried out an experiment aiming to test classical conditioning. In this study, participants were given succinylcholine chloride dihydrate to cause inability to breathe and temporary paralysis (Myers & Hansen, 2012). Despite the fact that there was no pain caused by the inability to breathe and paralysis, the subjects said the experience was terrifying, and to some point, they thought they were dying (Myers & Hansen, 2012). If there is a chance of injury or pain, the researchers must inform the ethics code and the IRB ahead of time. In this study, the subjects were deceived.……………for help with this assignment contact us via email Address: consulttutor10@gmail.com
